The REAL thing. This plant is actually a little grown plant and just because it is similar to Kalanchoe luciae, a much more commonly grown plant and often sold at just about any nursery, is such an excellent grower and surprisingly hardy, this one gets lots of attention, too...only erroneously. Sometime back, Kalanchoe luciae must have been misidentified as K thyrsiflora and sold massively under this incorrect identification... and now the damage has been done and getting these two plants back in their proper names will take decades, if not forever. See Kalanchoe luciae for the list of primary differences (from my point of view and a 'non-scientist'). I have ONLY seen this plant at the Huntington where they have been emphasizing the existences of this plant AND Kalanchoe luciae and have them in the gardens to illustrate the differences. All the photos below are from the small colony growing outside one of the Huntington's greenhouses near Pasadena, California.
