Dracaena ID request

#1

Post by nsp88 »

Someone gave me this a while back, and I have no clue what it is. Google lens is giving answers that are all over the place, and I have ruled most of them out except dracaena. It gives D draco as one of the results but it looks pretty different, even when small

Any ideas?

In my view the plant is too small to give a positive identification. May like to check on D. cinnabari.

Okay, thanks. I would like to keep it, but I likely will have to get rid of it so I doubt I will ever figure out what it is than. Don't have the right windows/indoor light/climate for something tall like that right now. Will see how fast it grows though, and decide.

It really looks like a yucca to me, like a soft leaf type.

I've seen a few of the soft leaf yuccas here like you're talking about. We have a couple natives like that here.

I don't know though. I don't get the yucca vibe from this plant. I don't know how to describe it but looking at it and everything it just doesn't seem like a yucca. Hard to capture in a photo

At this stage it looks like a lot of things. If it is Dracaena draco the sap will be red.

Also, cinnabari has much thinner leaves - those are too wide.

Thanks everyone!
I bugged the guy who gave it to me. He said it was dracaena, but he didn't offer a species name. I just replied and asked if he knew species or had photo of parent. Will see if he does.

Okay, the guy just replied and sent photos. He sent me photos of two because he isn't entirely sure, but he said he thinks it came from the one in the white pot.
