Ethiopian low growing, colony-forming spreading aloe with blue-green to grey-green leaves in flattened to somewhat upright oriented rosettes, though often also on decumbent stems and then more laterally oriented. Leaves long, tapering, narrow and lined with bright red teeth (entire leaf edges tend to be lined red). Leaves can have some spots, but tend to lose them with age. Plant colonies up to about 2.5' tall, but usually much shorter, but can take up over a dozen feet in all directions. Flowers in late fall to early winter, but some plants seem to bloom at other times of the year as well. Flowers on short, branched pedicles and are in head-shaped racemes of red-orange tapering to yellow near the mouths. Good full sun plant but tolerates shade as well.. fairly easy plant to grow. Cold tolerance to about 25F.

Re: Aloe schelpei
I've had this growing for over 15 years with lots of neglect, surviving mostly on winter rainfall in LA. It blooms every Nov-Dec
