Wow... don't know how/why I skipped this species... those seedlings are so fat... would be interested to see how they develop over time as that would certainly not be how I would imagine Aloe humilis to look as a seedling, for such a tiny, pointed-leaf species.

This South African species is one of the hardiest of all the dwarf aloes and surprisingly harder to kill than most, though I have still killed off my share. It is a very common aloe in cultivation, and hybrids with this are common as well. It is a small, stemless, suckering, blue-grey to sea green plant with upright, closely spaced leaves, pointed, but relatively harmless tubercles all over and very pointed, rubbery leaf tips. Larger plants have rosettes so crammed together sometimes it is hard to identify individual rosettes. Flowers are bright orange to red-orange and very simple with only 8-10 individual flowers per inflorescence- they are drooping and somewhat ovoid structures. Relatively cold hardy species down to about 23F.

As you say it will be interesting to see how they develop as they look nothing like adult plants. Seed came from Steve Brack and is described as "GM641B Dysselsdorp, small rosette, very toothy".
