this is really not this plant's name, but I have no other name for it for the time being, so until someone sees this or knows better, this is what I will call it for now, as some nurseries have sold this common plant as this. Aloe 'Blue Elf' is also often labeled as Aloe 'California', but as that plant already has an apt cultivar name, I will assign this name to this plant. This plant is often sold at garden outlet stores, though often in group plantings (like in those large pots-o-succulents Home Depot and Lowes offers), rarely as a single plant. It is a fast growing (which is why it does not make a good choice for these succulent pots), sprawling, climbing plant with long stems completely covered (if well watered) with leaves from tip to base. Leaves are pale blue to turquoise to see green and spotted, about 4"-6" long. No idea what this plant is or what makes it up. Nothing else really grows like this other than Aloe perfoliata var. distans, but it certainly looks very little like that species.

It also can send up one dominant vertical stalk that is more like one of the non branching tree Aloe's.

I've been looking at one 4' trunk for years surrounded by a half dozen pups like in the photos above and countless smaller suckers filling in gaps. The tall center plant is almost another plant in looks. Can't explain that.

The worlds tallest Aloe California. Why that one trunk just shot straight up I have no idea. Its about 5' or more. Flowerstalk extra.
