Fockea flower gender
I bought a few Fockea edulis & am trying to figure out which plants are male & which are female. I have read that they can be distinguished by the flowers, but I can't find any pictures saying which flowers are male & which are female. Can someone please tell me which is male & which is female? I even purchased a book on growing caudiciform plants & $95 later I still don't have an answer.

Re: Fockea flower gender
I have several of these growing and I have been trying to figure this out. I started out with one mature plant that came with fruit and seeds. I have grown up many of these where some of them sometimes have produced seed but have been unable to determine which plant is providing the pollen or how the plants have become pollinated. I think that some of the plants may have flowers on them now. I will try to take another look at them and see if I can see a difference between the flowers from different plants.

Male flowers of plants have prominent stamens, while female flowers feature a visible ovary at the base. The differences are subtle, but observing the flowers closely when they bloom should help you identify them.

Hey! I feel you – figuring out male vs. female Fockea edulis can be tricky. The flowers are the key, but they’re a bit subtle. Generally, the male flowers are smaller and less showy, while the female flowers tend to be larger with a bit more fragrance. Hope that helps!
