Agave gypsicola
Here are a couple of shots of one of the recently described agaves by Garcia-Mendoza. Enjoy Agave gypsicola.

Wow, those are really something different. Thanks for posting!

I guess like A. gypsophila, its habitat is high in gypsum?

Re: Agave gypsicola
This looks like the same species as the prominently featured giant in Mr. C's driveway garden. (photo from last march below) It is like a massive blue Agave attenuata with much wider leaves, arguably the most impressive agave I have ever seen. As it happens I was chatting with a gentleman yesterday at the orchid show in San Francisco. He informed me that this was formally described recently but I did not catch the name. Another well-learned gentleman said he saw some of these in Oaxaca across a ravine several years ago. Hopefully we will see these showing up in nurseries soon.

Fortunately, seeds from this species have been available from rarepalmseeds.com for several years, so have been offered for sale before (including currently from our friends at Starr Nursery [https://starr-nursery.com/shop/agaves/a ... la-3-inch/].

Here it is Greg. Never use DG's own search..it wont find the plant most of the time even spelled perfectly. I go to Google, use the latin name and after that I type in Daves garden. It finds them all.

Yep - their General Search is really really bad. I always just use the Advanced Search option (link towards top right) where you can input specific Genus and Species, etc. That will do it.Stan wrote: ↑Wed Dec 22, 2021 3:14 pm Here it is Greg. Re: Agave gypsicola
I acquired about a 100 seeds from RPS last year, and got nearly 100% germination rate with them. Very beautiful agave.
My seedlings are about a year old (seeds planted on Dec 23rd 2020, and Jan 4, 2021). I have a lot of these, and can't wait for them to get bigger.
